Dooley, Francis X.

Francis X. Dooley  (1916 - 2010)Frank was born in the Bronx, New York on May 12, 1916.

His parents, Owen and Catherine Dooley were from Ireland. Frank served in the army during World War II, a Technician Fourth Grade in the 77th Division, Company G of the 305th Infantry. He participated in three Pacific Theater invasions on Guam and the Philippines. He viewed this as one of the defining experiences of his life.

After the war, Frank married Elizabeth (Betty) Lang, his wife for 61 years. They lived for almost 30 years in the community of Parkchester, in the Bronx, New York. Frank worked for Kodak for 37 years as a customer service representative.

In 1957 they had a small summer home built in the community of Knollcrest, New Faifield, Connecticut. The exterior was finished, but not the interior. Frank and Betty spent many summers finishing the interior themselves, becoming quite the handyman and handywoman.

Betty and their daughters spent every summer at this house near Candlewood Lake, and Frank would join them on the weekends. They retired to this house in 1978. Frank enjoyed 32 years of happy and active retirement. Frank and Betty loved to travel, taking trips to Europe, Mexico, Alaska and elsewhere in the U.S. They enjoyed for many years spending some time each winter in Hawaii.

In 1999 Frank and Betty bought a condominium in Oaknoll Villas, Thousand Oaks to be closer to their family. They became full time Thousand Oaks residents in 2008, having sold their home of 31 years in Connecticut. Frank passed away April 12, 2010, age 93.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Betty, daughter Betti Johnson of Woodinville, Wash., daughter Joan Gunning and her husband Bill of Newbury Park, grandson Kurt Gunning and his wife Becky and their daughter Kayley of Simi Valley, and grandson Dylan Gunning and his wife Michelle, Thousand Oaks.

On Monday, April 19, the family will be having a private viewing followed by interment at 11 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Cemetery, Honors Section. In lieu of flowers , memorial contributions/donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements made with the assistance of Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, Thousand Oaks; 230-2800
