Thousand Oaks, CA
Donald A. O’Rourke, 90, passed away at home in Thousand Oaks surrounded by his family on Oct. 20, 2020. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Don was born June 25,1930 in Milwaukee, WI.
For nearly 62 years, he was married to his lovely wife Pat. They were married in Milwaukee, WI on November 15, 1958. Job opportunities brought them to Mt. Prospect, IL and ultimately to Thousand Oaks.
He served honorably in the US Army. While he wasn’t on active duty during a war, he could cite facts and trivia about all the world’s battles.
After Don retired from the insurance industry, he and Pat took up golfing. It was a favorite weekly activity. Don loved the California sunshine for more than 42 years. He was a voracious reader and regularly visited the Thousand Oaks library. He spent hours attending classic car, train and plane shows. There wasn’t a classic car he couldn’t identify. He loved to tinker in the garage and kept the house running smoothly. Troubleshooting plumbing brought out the best of his humor.
Don is survived by his wife Pat; children Bill O’Rourke, Liz Kroll, Carolyn (Mike) Kohler and Stacey (Jeff) Heaton; grandchildren John (Meredith) Kroll, Rachael Kroll, Brynn Heaton, Delaney Kohler and Sarah Kohler; sisters-in law-Phyllis (Norb) Vogl, Jean (Gene) Sinclair, Joan (Bill) Siembieda; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Pat and his son-in-law Tom Kroll.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church, 155 E. Janss Rd., Thousand Oaks. He will be interred at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley, CA.
